Birth Certificate Translation

Experts in Translating Birth Certificates

People needing a translation of their birth certificate for an official procedure run into many kinds of challenges: tight deadlines, country-specific requirements, and questions about what type of translation is considered valid, to name a few. Our goal is to help you submit a perfect translation of your birth certificate on your first try—without any risk of rejection for formatting or validity issues.

As an ISO-certified translation agency with a strong network of sworn translators across multiple jurisdictions, we offer official document translations that are fast, flexible and 100% compliant with regulations. We also offer legalisation and apostilles if your papers require them. The process is fully online, secure and supported by human experts.

What is a Sworn Translation of a Birth Certificate?

A sworn translation is a translation that is performed, signed, stamped and certified by a qualified sworn translator. This process makes it legally valid to public institutions, courts, universities and consulates.

Unlike a normal translation, a certified or official translation provides a formal statement of accuracy and identifies the translator/company that handled the project. We assess which kind of translation you need so that your birth certificate translation meets the requirements of the entity that will receive it.

When Might I Need a Translation of My Birth Certificate?

An official translation of your birth certificate is generally required whenever the document needs to be used in another language or country. It is often mandatory for immigration, civil and academic procedures. You will also need it if a bank, insurance company or healthcare authority requests standardised documents in their working language.

  • Marriage, partnership registration or change of matrimonial regime.
  • Nationality, residency or visa applications (study, work, family reunification).
  • Academic validations and enrollment (colleges/universities).
  • Procedures with civil registries, consulates and embassies.
  • International adoptions, inheritances and legal processes.

Languages and Combinations: English Birth Certificates, French Birth Certificates and More

We offer birth certificate translation in the most popular language combinations, assigning you a birth certificate translator specialised in civil registry documents. Our services are available in common language combinations (ESEN/FR/DE/IT/PT) as well as rarer ones (PL, RO, NL, AR, ZH, etc.), and we accept triangulated projects where regulations allow.

Birth Certificate Translation (FAQs)

What is the difference between sworn translation and certified translation for birth certificates?

In Spain, sworn translations are signed and stamped by an authorised sworn translator. This process makes the document legally valid to civil registries and government agencies. Certified translations are used in Anglo-Saxon countries and usually include a statement of accuracy signed by the translator or the company. We will tell you which one your situation requires so that your translated birth certificate can be accepted without any problem.

For more common language combinations (Spanish–English/French), the usual turnaround time is 24–72 hours, with an option for same-day rush depending on availability. The price depends on the language, the destination country and whether legalisation or hard copies are required. We will send you a fixed quote and delivery date before beginning your official translation.

We recommend getting the apostille before the translation, so that the apostille stamp will also be reflected on the translated birth certificate. If you already translated your birth certificate before you were asked to provide an apostille, we will evaluate whether an addendum will suffice or if your situation requires a new sworn translation. We assess the situation based on the country to which you are sending your documents and the authority that will receive them.

Every institution has its own guidelines. Many accept digitally signed PDFs; others require a printed original with the sworn translator’s stamp and handwritten signature. We offer translations in both formats. Let us know which institution will receive your documents, and we will adapt our official translation to meet their requirements.

A legible scan at 300 dpi (clearly showing all sides, stamps and marginal notes) is sufficient. Avoid photos with shadows or cropping, and check that the names and dates on all documents match. If the administration requests a recent hard copy, ask for a new one from the registry before translating the birth certificate to avoid potential issues.

It depends. A Spanish sworn translation is generally valid in Spain and for certain EU procedures, but other countries may require a local certified translation or additional notarisation. Let us know where your translated birth certificate will be sent, and we will inform you of whether your current official translation is valid or if you should get different versions adapted to each jurisdiction.
